Items you should bring to your Newborn Photography Sessions

Items you should bring to your Newborn Photography Sessions

  • Just in case something goes wrong, bring extra clothes. I usually suggest coming to your shoot in comfy clothes as babies are often naked in the family shots and things can go wrong.

  • Bring snacks or a light meal: the shoots are usually around 2-4 hours and take place over lunch time so you may want to have something to eat.

  • To keep siblings happy, bring some toys, iPads etc to keep them occupied while we are photographing baby.

  • Please bring a dummy or pacifier to use with baby if you are using one. It often assists in trying to get newborns into those sleeping positions.

  • Bring all of the items you'll need to feed and change the baby and any specific baby care products you use.

  • Personal objects you want to use in the pictures.

  • Bring a brush if the baby has hair. While I am talking about feeding, if you are using infacol/colief or similar, please bring that to the shoot as preventing wind can be very handy.

  • I understand that leaving the house with a new baby is a new experience and can take a little longer than it did before. It is important to try to plan for this. The studio will be heated and ready to shoot at the time we have agreed, so please be punctual: if you are late it may eat into your session time.

  • You will need to bring nappies, a spare set of clothes for baby and, preferably, yourselves as well as any toys that you may want included in the shoot. You are welcome to bring some special things with you e.g.receiving blanket, special teddy, etc. and I will try to incorporate these into the shoot - although I have plenty of beautiful things here so please do not feel it necessary to bring anything with you. I am really open to discussing ideas with you, please feel free to set up a call to discuss

Frequently Asked Questions for Newborn Photography

I know that, as new parents, you might have many questions in your mind: the following are a few FAQs asked by my clients that might help you.

What happens if my baby needs feeding or cries during the shoot?

Please do not worry or concern yourself with these types of issues: most shoots go off without any hitches and I am trained and competent when handling babies.  My shoots are baby-led and we will simply stop the shoot until baby is fed and feeling more settled.

Rest be assured I have years of experience and at Sue Greetham Studio I want you to have an amazing experience and a happy baby during the shoot so will do all I can do make sure you get that.  As an experienced newborn photographer, I am great at calming down newborns and babies and you will be amazed at some of the techniques used to calm down the baby.

What do you think we should wear and what should I bring?

I  will pop over some information to assist you with the type of clothing to wear to this shoot with some general recommendations on what to bring to your shoot.

I am happy to discuss your ideas and thoughts for the shoot. I have many fabrics, dresses and props and we will use a combination of your clothing and some of my maternity wear— you may reveal as little or as much of your bump as you would like. Any blemishes or stretch marks can be photoshopped off in the post-production process.

What sites are used for the shoots?

Sue Greetham Studio is located in Chelsfield, near Orpington, London. The peacefulness of my home studio tends to offer the best photographs of maternity, newborn babies, and smaller children. The controlled brightness, low noise, and temperature-controlled setting work best for my clients. It is often more comfortable to be in the studio because the UK weather can be unpredictable.

We can also do our shoot outside if that's what you want. I am open to everything. I am willing to shoot these at your home but most clients tend to choose the studio.

When is the ideal time to book my newborn photo shoot?

The ideal time to book your session is after your 20 weeks scan. This way, you can be sure that your newborn photoshoot will take place within 1-3 weeks of the baby's birth, which is the perfect period to capture those beautiful pictures! My schedule fills up quickly and I only accept a certain number of newborn shoots per month. Do not delay if you want to book a session!

Is it possible to include images of my baby's siblings and family?

Definitely! Getting your tiny one photographed with the other children and the family is an amazing experience for everyone and makes for beautiful memories in the years to come.

Conclusion

I know that the phase of a newborn in your family is precious to you, and I am here to provide quality service that you will treasure forever.
