5 Top Tips for Enjoying your Maternity Photo Shoot

If you are searching for the  maternity photographer in Blackheath, then you have come to the right place!  Sue Greetham specialises in capturing these beautiful life-changing moments "I want my clients to feel special at all times during this beautiful journey and to create gorgeous, timeless and tasteful pregnancy photographs." said Sue. In this article, I will guide you through the whole maternity photo shoot and give you a few tips  to help enjoy the session.

Things to before your shoot to maximise your enjoyment

The following things are a few tips to help a mum-to-be before booking booking and give her the confidence to know that she is booking a photographer who will not only give awesome images but also to know that she will have a wonderful and enjoyable maternity photoshoots.

  1. Safety always comes first!

The most important thing to remember is that the mum's safety always comes first. The shoots are usually done between 28 - 34 weeks while you are still feeling fairly active.  Not all mums to be are feeling great during pregnancy and some have issues such as pre-eclampsia and may be experiencing issues with mobility etc.  Communication is key in any shoot and, particularly in a maternity shoot, we may need to stop to rest, drink a glass of water and even have a snack.  I have photographed many women with many issues relating to mobility etc during their pregnancy and have produced gorgeous, timeless and wonderful  maternity portraits for them: if you have any anxiety regarding a shoot please do get in contact and we can discuss it.

    2.  Feel prepared

I will send out information with some suggestions of what to bring to your shoot.  If this is all ironed, packed and ready for the shoot it will help with making your feel prepared.  Book your hair/nails/make-up, if you are planning on doing any of these in advance, and leave plenty of time to get to the shoot.  Take into account traffic on the roads: it’s better to come to the area slightly early and stop for a coffee nearby than to be late.  I book multiple shoots and it's important to be on time.

  3. Don't worry about your appearance, cellulite, stretch marks etc!

Please do not let these things hold you back from booking a shoot.  Pregnancy is an incredible life altering and amazing experience and one that you will remember always.  It's such a special thing to capture this wonderful stage and while some pregnant women feel great about their bodies during pregnancy , others are conscious and worried about their bodies and some of the changes that have taken place. All my images are retouched by professional retouchers and it is likely we can remove many of the blemished that you are concerned about.  Contact me with any concerns and we can discuss: please do not let these hold you back…Photoshop is a wonderful tool and the most important thing is that you enjoy the experience.

4. Wear Comfortable outfits

We will use a combination of your clothing and my clothing during the shoot. Solid colours, body-hugging dresses, flowey maxi dresses, and casuals work well. On the day of the shoot wear something comfortable and try and avoid bras, tight nickers and socks as these may leave marks/indents in the skin.

5. Involve your partner, family and pets.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you and your family. I strongly advise you to involve your partner, another child or children or even your pets in the shoot.  This is a really special experience and can be enjoyed by all!

Maternity Photoshoot at Sue Greetham

A pregnancy shoot is all about capturing the beauty of your tummy and honouring the beauty of sharing your body with your unborn baby. The optimal period is between 32 and 36 weeks. However, the shoot can take place at any point at your convenience.

You can bring your spouse, your child or children, sister/ brother, a friend, your mother and even your pets to the shoot — I don't mind who you get as long as you're happy, secure and comfortable with them around you during the shoot.

I am happy to discuss your ideas and thoughts for the shoot. I have many fabrics, dresses and props and we will use a combination of your clothing and some of my maternity wear— you may reveal as little or as much of your bump as you would like. Any blemishes or stretch marks can be photoshopped off in the post-production process.

I believe in delivering quality services, as I am aware that there is a short window for these wonderful photographs so it’s important to create these wonderful memories.  So don't wait!
