What shall I bring?

Every pet has their own personality — and I want your photos to capture exactly who they are, so you can display them proudly in your home!

Getting Ready

There's no need for anything fancy — a freshly brushed coat and a well-exercised pet (a good walk or play beforehand often means a calmer, happier session!) go a long way. If your pet wears a favourite collar, lead or bandana, feel free to bring it along, but honestly, a relaxed and comfortable pet always photographs best.

If you'd like your pet in an outfit or bandana for part of the session, do bring it — just be mindful of anything that might feel restrictive or cause them stress, as their comfort always comes first.

Treats & Toys

Treats are often the secret to a great pet shoot — small, soft, high-value treats work best for holding attention (and encouraging those perfect ears-up, head-tilt moments!). Feel free to bring your pet's favourite squeaky toy too, as a familiar sound can really help grab their focus.

I'd also love it if you brought along anything that reflects your pet's personality — their favourite ball, a well-loved blanket, or even a lead if you'd like a shot with you together. Honestly, anything that feels like "them" is welcome.

What to Wear

As you'll be joining your pet in some of the images, it's worth giving a little thought to what you wear too.

I'd love the shoot to reflect your personality, so let's have some fun with it! Go "full English" in tweed, funk it up and show off a sleeve of tattoos, dress smart, keep it casual, go light and airy, or bright and bold — whatever feels like you. If you'd like to talk through ideas, just get in touch.

If there's more than one of you joining in, it's worth thinking about keeping everyone in similar tones — so if one person's in black, it's lovely if everyone else is too, rather than one bright colour standing out on its own. It's also worth thinking about your pet's colouring: a lighter outfit tends to stand out nicely against a darker coat, and a darker outfit works well against a lighter one.

And as with the family sessions, we're always happy to work barefoot if that suits the shots — just let me know if that's not for you!

Choosing Your Background

I have backgrounds available in a range of colours, and for pet photographs I tend to keep things simple, working with a pale grey, dark grey, beige, black or white. Have a think about which would suit your pet's colouring best — a light background often works beautifully against a darker coat, and vice versa — and we can chat through the options together.

Please bring your pet on a lead or in a carrier for arrival and departure, even if they're generally very well-behaved.
If your pet is nervous around new people or environments, do let me know in advance.
