What shall I bring?
Clothes are a great way to show off your personalities, individuality and culture — and I want you to love your images and display them proudly in your home!
Clothes
Why not bring something fairly relaxed, like jeans and a nice top, and then something a little dressier for the second part of the shoot — or even a traditional outfit, if that's part of who you are.
It's also worth thinking ahead: these images could be with you for 20, 30 years or more, and may well become part of your family's legacy. Because of that, I usually encourage simple, classic colours and clothing that won't date — the kind of thing that will still look fantastic in 30 years' time. Jeans with a white or black t-shirt, girls in little white, pink or neutral dresses, boys with a touch of Thomas Shelby about them, the whole family in black or white or traditional dress — these are all lovely options. If you love colour, bring colour! Just try to keep everyone in the same tones — so if you're going pastel, keep everyone in pastels, rather than having one person in a dark colour that pulls all the attention.
We generally shoot family sessions barefoot — don't worry, no one's looking at your feet! It just tends to look more natural in the photos, so unless your footwear is one of your props, it's not something you need to worry about.
Choosing Your Background
I have backgrounds available in a range of colours, but for family photographs I tend to keep things simple, working with a pale grey, dark grey, beige, black or white. You can see all of these below — it's worth having a look through to see which one you love, and we can work with that.
Props
I'd also really encourage you to bring along anything that reflects you as a family, or things you love doing together or individually — sport, fashion, playing an instrument, music records, a dressing-up tea set... honestly, anything! Toys are always a winner for helping children settle in and relax, so maybe bring a little one's favourite teddy along too.
I'm always happy to chat through your ideas — just give me a call on (07905) 139007 or drop me an email at contact@suegreetham.com.
I would like you to feel as comfortable as possible, so please just be yourself!
