What shall I bring?

Babies at this age have so much personality already — that gorgeous belly laugh, the wobbly first sits, those curious little expressions — and I want your photos to capture exactly who they are right now.

Getting Ready

Try to time the session around your baby's natural rhythm where possible — a happy, well-fed, well-rested baby always photographs best! If nap time is close beforehand, that's often ideal, so they arrive settled rather than overtired. If you know they're likely to fall asleep in the car and you've got a longish journey, try to give them as long as possible to sleep so they arrive well rested.

There's no need to overthink outfits or props — babies this age are wonderfully expressive all on their own. A favourite blanket, teddy, or a little something that makes them smile is always worth having on hand. If they're old enough, it's well worth bringing along something that reliably makes them smile — it can make all the difference during the session.

What to Wear

Clothes

Simple, classic colours tend to work beautifully and won't date — think plain white, cream, soft neutrals, or a gentle pastel. Avoid busy patterns, characters, or large logos, as these can pull attention away from your baby's face and expressions.

There are so many lovely looks for babies at this age — a knitted, slightly vintage-style outfit, a tweed waistcoat and cap, or a smocked romper or dress all photograph beautifully. Knitted hats and little bows for girls are also gorgeous, simple additions that add so much charm. And honestly, we can do just as well with nothing more than a nappy and a blanket — it's a gorgeous, timeless look that often shows off those chubby little arms and legs perfectly!

If Mum, Dad, or siblings are joining in for some shots, keep everyone in similar tones — so if baby's in white, it's lovely if the rest of the family stays in soft, complementary colours too, rather than one bright piece standing out on its own.

It's also worth bringing a spare outfit or two, just in case — babies this age can be unpredictable!

We generally shoot barefoot for these sessions — no need to worry about socks or shoes matching, they'll come off anyway.

Choosing Your Background

I have backgrounds available in a range of colours, and for pet photographs I tend to keep things simple, working with a pale grey, dark grey, beige, black or white. Have a think about which would suit your pet's colouring best — a light background often works beautifully against a darker coat, and vice versa — and we can chat through the options together.

Bring any usual essentials: nappies, wipes, a change of clothes, and feeding supplies
If your baby has a favourite toy or sound that soothes or delights them, bring it along — it can be a brilliant tool for those gorgeous natural smiles
