Baby, Children & Family Photography Sessions in Orpington, Kent
Children change so quickly — the way they laugh, the things that make them proud, the way they move — and it's all worth capturing before it changes again.
I've been photographing children since I came out of college 30 years ago, and in my Orpington studio for over 16 years — working with children of every age and every personality, from six days old to the "terrible twos" and beyond. My approach is relaxed and led entirely by your child, not by a script — some children love to sing, dance, tell jokes or play peekaboo in front of the camera, while others prefer to sit quietly, play with blocks, and just be themselves. Either way, I capture what's genuinely them.
It's not unusual for me to photograph the same family again and again — some for as long as 15 years, from their very first maternity shoot, through newborn, cake smash, and every family milestone since. Many return every year for updated portraits or for my annual Christmas shoots. I also love capturing those bigger, rarer occasions — when a family is all together in the same country at the same time, perhaps for a special celebration, with all the grandchildren gathered for once or as a birthday or anniversary gift. Watching a family grow and change over the years, and being trusted to capture that story, is one of the parts of this job I love most.
Session Info
These sessions are very much child-led. I generally allow 1–2 hours, depending on what we're going for.
They can be quiet and subdued, full of cuddles, soft singing and block-playing — or they can be fast and furious! Much depends on the child (or children). I never quite know what sort of session I'm going to have, but they're usually fun. I know a lot of parents worry about how their children will behave at a shoot — that's really not something you need to worry about with me. There isn't a lot I haven't seen, and my own son was a bit of a nightmare, if I'm honest! He's grown now and absolutely delightful, but I used to dread taking him out when he was little.
If it's a big family group, we may stagger the shoot so we can capture individual smaller groups too — but that's all something we'll chat through when you book.
“My partner & I had so much fun doing our maternity shoot with Sue! We brought some of our own inspo pics which she recreated really well, as well as her own creative ideas which we loved…”

Frequently Asked Questions
Using carefully crafted lighting, beautiful fabrics and simple styling, I create maternity photographs that can be soft and elegant, dramatic and artistic, or relaxed and natural — always focused on celebrating your pregnancy and the connection between you and your baby.

Any age that parents would like them photographed! I've had parents specifically wanting to capture the gap caused by losing their teeth, holding themselves up, sitting up, first steps, going to nursery, birthdays — or no reason at all. Time just flies by, and they feel like they're missing it. I love it all. Any age, all stages.

It can take time — we play with blocks, throw a ball, try singing... we just keep trying until we find something that works. We pivot is the short and the long answer.

Don't worry — 've been doing this a long time, so there's not a lot I haven't seen. Every session flows around your child's natural personality, there is no script or catch all solution— I've had my fair share of "tricky" children, and we just learn to roll with it.

We'll have a chat on the phone to discuss the look and feel you're hoping to capture, and what could work best with that. I have pictures on my studio wall photographed 14 years ago — I try to keep things timeless and classic, so they never date.

I love this — bring anything that reflects your family, whether that's a favourite sport, music records, toys or teddies. It makes the session feel genuinely you, not a generic template.
